Library Thing 4

  • What do you like about RSS and newsreaders? It easily brings things in which you are interested together in one place. It reduces the amount of time you spend returning to those fav things and gems that you have discovered after hours of searching, surfing between the hands of solitaire.

  • How do you think you might be able to use this technology in your library or personal life? I can cut down on time spent searching and repeat searching as mentioned above and give you more time for online sudoku or solitaire OOPS, I mean working on the latest draft of the Library's Long Range Plan or whatever. However you do have to give up some game time to read the feed as they can accumulate, just like those bills do on the table waiting to be paid.

  • How can librarian staff or media specialists use RSS or take advantage of this technology? One can bring together many items of interest into one place automatically and peruse them at your leisure rather than having to read them when they arrive. It is an insominiac's dream (is that an oxymoron?)

  • Which tool for finding feeds was easiest to use? I go to the general store to find feeds. I think barley is the best!

  • What other tools or ways did you find to locate newsfeeds? Often the blog will have a blogroll or tag cloud or some other way of leading you ever deeper into the web.

  • Find any great sources we should all add to our feed reader? Not right now.

Thing 3 - Blog Search Tools

I used Technorati and Google. I searched library behavior. Both returned a great variety of items. Some were useful, some were not. I found it interesting that a broad based search engine doesn't know what kind of library I mean. Refining your search ability is always a useful technique to remember.

Thing 2 - What is web 2.0

Well, according to many people, web 2.0 is dead, never existed or has morphed into something else. Perhaps all of them are right. But, for our purposes it is looking at those resources that move the web from being a static universe that can not be acted upon to a universe in which everyone can participate to whatever degree they feel comfortable.

Thing 1- Set up

Boy I feel like I just got back from Universal Studios. I see Thing 1, Thing 2, Thing 3, etc. all around me. At least they are not all on red t-shirts! Got through the set up OK. Trying to encourage the rest of the Putnam County Library System staff to finish their registrations and posts.
